The Contact Lens Consultation
The initial step in a contact lens consultation is to discuss with your eye doctor some lifestyle and health considerations that could impact the type of contacts that suit you best.
One thing to consider is how often you plan to wear contact lenses. Soft contact lenses are available in daily disposable, 2-week disposable and monthly disposable lenses. If you have astigmatism or dry eye syndrome, your eye doctor might have specific recommendations for the right type or brand for your optimal comfort and vision needs. Soft contact lenses commonly provide satisfactory vision and comfort, however, in some cases a rigid gas permeable (RGP) or scleral lens may be a better option for you.
Now is the time to tell your eye doctor if you would like to consider coloured contact lenses as well. If you are over 40 and experience problems seeing small print, for which you need bifocals to see close objects, your eye doctor may recommend multifocal lenses or monovision lenses to correct your unique vision needs.
In the sea of options available on the market today, our eye doctor will work with you to find the right lens for you.
The Fitting Process
A good contact lens fit starts with a thorough eye exam to ensure the most up-to-date prescription and rule out any pre-existing conditions that could interfere with contact lens wear.
We will then determine the best fitting lens based on your lifestyle needs and the shape and health of your eye. In many cases, you’ll have the opportunity to try lenses on the same day as your exam.
We will follow up the initial fitting and make any necessary changes in fit or materials to get you the best possible vision and comfort. It may take a few lens changes to find the right fit.
We educate all of our patients on proper lens care and maintenance and may recommend specific solutions for you.
